Two-thousand years after "The Fall", a great Republic has arisen in the Faranland. During this so-called New Era, The Guardians of the Republic have expanded their rule and spread their religion. All who dared to resist were annihilated or worse, exiled.
The Republic derives its wealth and power from a monopoly on helion, the clean energy that the entire world depends on. But a new and mysterious force has emerged on the moon-world of Luna, the sole source of that precious helion, one that threatens to tear down the tyranny and corruption of the Old World.
Nahum and Naomi Elko work as miners, far removed from the Old World and its politics. When Nahum is forced to kill to save his twin, he awakens something he doesn’t understand–the Gloss, the force of creation itself, present in all things but activated only by extremity. Nahum is hunted down, separated from Naomi only to endure years of suffering.
